Mistral threw a hackathon in San Francisco this weekend with a staggering 2000 entrants! The amazing traction led one attendee to comment "Mistral AI is what OpenAI would be if it were actually open". The Hackathon featured participants using Mistral to do everything from playing DOOM to analyzing RNA sequencing data. Mistral 7B was fine-tuned to play DOOM using ASCII frame representations (imagine letters and symbols replacing the typical textures). It was trained to interpret a 32x64 grid where each pixel contained the object on the frame buffer, allowing the model to "see" and interact with the game environment. In another application, the model was fine-tuned to parse RNA sequencing data, which enabled it to identify the functions of micro-RNA sequences and investigate their relations to specific conditions. Another standout was the launch of an open-source AI wearable device called FRIEND by a dedicated team. This device boasts an impressive ability to run for more than 24 hours on a single charge. It's designed to listen to your conversations, provide feedback, understand commands through voice or chat, and even summarize conversations, all for just $20. Induced AI is testing a new API that uses a URL and a natural language query to extract structured data from websites. The API eliminates the need for custom scraping scripts and can extract specific data. It works by spinning up a browser agent in a remote session and combing through unstructured websites to find the prompted information. However, there are some limitations; for instance, it currently does not support pagination, though this feature is anticipated in the near future.
